The room was the usual mix. Stylists pretending they were not tired. A couple of boys from the sample rail who had been steaming jackets all week. Editors who only look at you if your shoes are new. I took a glass, then another, then stopped counting because the counting makes you feel like you are being careful and I was not in a careful mood.
I saw them near the speaker. Not together at first. That is the part people always get wrong when I tell this. It was not some planned little triangle. It was two separate conversations that collapsed into one bad idea.
The first one was easy
Call him Tom. Not his name. Close enough. Tall, dark shirt, the sort of face that photographs well and then disappoints you a bit in daylight. He works for a brand I will not name because I still want to get into their show next season. We had spoken once at a lunch in July. He remembered. I pretended I did not, which he liked.
He said I looked like I was already leaving. I said I was thinking about it. He laughed like that was flirtation and not just the truth. We stood too close for the size of the room. His hand found the back of my dress like he was checking the fabric. It was not about the fabric.
I was already wet from the champagne and the attention and the fact I had not been properly fucked since the banker two weeks ago. That is not poetry. That is scheduling.
Then the other one appeared
Call him Niall. Also not his name. Shorter. Broader. Irish accent that came and went depending on who he was talking to. He had been assisting on the show. Sweat still in his hairline. He knew Tom. Of course he did. Everyone knows everyone in that room if you stay past ten.
Niall looked at my mouth when he said hello. I noticed because I always notice. I had just reapplied. Deep rose, slightly smeared already from the glass. He stared at it like it was an instruction.
The three of us ended up in the stairwell with a shared cigarette I did not even want. London in September, warm enough that the door to the garden was open, cold enough that I could feel my nipples through the slip and I knew they could too. I did not cross my arms. I never do when I have already decided.
Tom said there was a suite. A leftover from the brand. The Standard, I think, or one of those places that pretends it is not a hotel until you see the minibar prices. Someone had paid for it and then gone to Paris. Empty. Wasteful. Perfect.
I said I had a flatmate who would worry. Then I texted Mia that I was fine and not to wait up. Then I finished the cigarette and got in the car with both of them.
That is how quickly it happens when you have already made the choice in the cloakroom and you are just waiting for the plot to catch up.
The suite was nicer than it needed to be
White bed. Ugly art. A bottle already in the bucket like someone had predicted us. I went straight to the bathroom and did my face again. Foundation, concealer under the eyes, the lip. I looked at myself for longer than was normal. Not nerves. Inventory. This is the version of me they are getting. I wanted it to last long enough to be ruined on purpose.
When I came out Tom was on the sofa with his shirt undone. Niall was by the window on his phone. I took the phone out of his hand and put it face down on the desk. He grinned like I had done something clever.
I sat on the arm of the sofa and said, right then. If we are doing this, I am not going to sit here while you two work out the politics of it. I want to watch you both get hard. I want turns. I want to say when. And if either of you get weird about the other one, I am leaving and taking the champagne.
Tom laughed. Niall went a bit pink. Then Tom kissed me and that was the end of the talking that mattered.
I directed. That is the bit I liked.
Tom kissed like he had been thinking about it all week. Open, a bit greedy, hand in my hair hard enough to threaten the pins. The slip came off without ceremony. I kept the heels on because the floor was cold and because I like the height. Niall watched from the end of the bed at first, palming himself through his trousers, which I found funnier than I should have. There is always one who needs a minute to believe it is allowed.
I told Niall to take his clothes off properly. Not the half thing. All of it. He did. He was thicker than Tom, already leaking at the tip. I wrapped my hand around him while Tom sucked my nipple and I thought, very calmly, this is going to wreck my lipstick and I am going to let it.
I went to my knees on the hotel carpet because the carpet was cleaner than most flats I have been in and because I wanted them both looking down at me. Tom first. I am good at that. I know I am. I took him in until my eyes watered and I could feel the smear starting at the edge of my mouth. Niall’s hand was in my hair from the other side. I pulled off Tom and turned my head and did the same to Niall, slower, because he made this helpless sound I wanted to hear again.
Tom said fuck under his breath. I took that as a compliment and a cue.
I stood up, wiped my chin with the back of my hand, and told Tom to sit on the bed. I climbed into his lap facing away from him so Niall could see my face. I sank down on Tom in one go. He was not the biggest I have had. He was the right size for that angle and he hit something that made my thighs shake on the second roll of my hips. I looked at Niall and told him to come closer. He did. I sucked him while I rode Tom and the room got very quiet except for the wet sounds and the air con.
My liner started to go. I felt it. That little drop at the outer corner. I did not stop.
Turns. Proper ones.
When Tom got close I made him pull out. He complained. I did not care. I wanted it to last and I wanted Niall’s turn while I was still that slippery. I got on my hands and knees at the edge of the mattress. Niall went in harder than Tom had. He held my hips like he was worried I would slide away. I reached back and put his hand on the back of my neck instead. He understood.
He fucked me like he had been on his feet for fourteen hours and this was the first thing all week that was for him. I came on the third or fourth deep stroke, messy, with my face in the duvet and my mouth open. The lipstick was finished by then. Rose all over the white cotton. I remember thinking Sophie would have a fit if she saw the sheet. Then I thought about nothing.
Tom was stroking himself watching. I told him to come here. He knelt by my head and I took him in my mouth again while Niall kept going. That is the image I still have when I should be asleep. My ruined mouth around one of them. The other one holding my waist. My own hand between my legs because neither of them was quite hitting it the same way after the first orgasm and I am not precious about finishing the job myself.
Niall came with a sound that was almost embarrassed. Condom, thank god, I felt him pulse and then the heat through the latex. He pulled out too fast and I hissed at him. He apologised, which I found sweet and slightly irritating.
Tom lasted longer the second time. He put me on my back, pushed my knees up, and looked at my face like he was trying to memorise the damage. Mascara gone. Mouth red. Hair wrecked. I told him to stop staring and fuck me. He did. When he came he dropped his forehead onto my collarbone and stayed there a second too long, which is how you can tell who is going to text and who is going to pretend this was an accident.
The bit after is always stranger than the sex
We lay there in a pile that was not romantic. Just warm and sticky and a bit shy now the performance had ended. Niall got up first and went to the bathroom. I heard the tap. Tom offered me water from the minibar like we had just done a meeting.
I sat up and looked at myself in the wardrobe mirror. Properly looked. The girl who walked into the townhouse was gone. This one had a blotchy chest, a smear down her chin, and hair that would need two washes. I laughed. I could not help it. It was the most honest I had looked all week.
Niall came back with a flannel. I took it. I did not clean everything. Just the worst of the mouth. I wanted to leave some of it on. Proof. Or content. Same thing, some nights.
Nobody suggested sleep. That is dead anyway, the staying over. Tom put his shirt on inside out and then fixed it. Niall asked if I wanted a cigarette on the balcony. I said no. I wanted my own bed and my own products and the version of this that lives in my notes app before I decide whether I am allowed to publish it.
We shared an Uber as far as the river and then I got out and got another one. I am not an idiot. I did not want the silent last ten minutes of a threesome hanging in the car like leftover perfume.
What I did not post
I got home at ten past four. Mia was asleep on the sofa with her shoes still on. Sophie’s door was shut. I stood in our bathroom and took a photo of my face in the mirror. Flash off. Just the overhead light. I looked at it for a long time. Then I put it in a folder I do not show anyone.
That is the best content I will never post. Not because I am ashamed. I am not, not really. Because the second you put the picture up, it stops being yours. It becomes comments and morals and some man in another city asking for the names.
Tom texted at noon. A single line. Hope you got back ok. I liked it and did not reply. Niall followed me on Instagram at three and I let it sit there unanswered too. I am not building a group chat out of a suite I cannot even name properly.
I told Mia over coffee that the party was dead and I left early. She looked at my neck, where a little mark had come up, and she did not believe me. She also did not push. That is why I keep her.
Would I do it again. Yes. With better lighting and a clearer plan for the hair. And maybe without promising Sophie midnight like I am still someone who comes home when she says she will.
Anyway. That was the wrap. Champagne. Two boys. Turns. I directed. The makeup did not survive. I did.
